The town of Sagada has no known unique animals; however, these common animals found in the area have their own unique stories.
Dogs – as expected, dogs guard the house and roam around freely in their territories however, like some humans; they are sometimes responsible for the disappearance of chickens. Dogs are famous as mans Best Friend, in Sagada; they are famous as mans Best Food. Many local tourists often mistakenly identify highland dogs as purebreds because almost all are fluffy and furry. Askal mga un gurl, product ng ebolusyon, they grew fur to cope up with the weather. Masarap mg un pag hiloan ng asin at ginger lang.

Cats – not much to say about these fellahs. Households just keep them for the sake of keeping them. Most call them with the word “sing’ and drive them away shouting the word “shooo”
Cows – grazing in all the mountains of Sagada, cows are everywhere. They consume the grasses of the mountains but sometimes enter the village, eating the greens at the camote patch. The cow owners are responsible from keeping them off the community.

I keep wondering why most find a lot of cows and cow dung all over Sagada yet you can’t find a single “bulaluhan” establishment any where.
Carabaos – (Philippine Buffalo) the farmers “beast” friend is so valuable that you will need a license to own em. Helpful as they are, they are still not exempted from the Igorot appetite for they are butchered during marriage celebrations. You can see horns hanging in houses.
Count all horns, divide them by two and the probable result will be the number/s of marriage/s the owners of the house sponsored for their children.

on dogs & carabaos: the reason why i admire sagada's nature but not its food culture
I really don't like this post referring to dogs to be Sagadan's Best Food. Proud na Proud pa. Tsk tsk tsk.
