the Sagada Genuine Guides Association started their New Year with a picnic at Lake Danum. Not only that we went there for fun but to clean the area that was left dirty and dull left by the New Years mass picnic.

We had so much activities and lots of Fun that the people didn't wanna go home..
Below is a presentation of photos i took during that activity..

Would like to know if these SAGGAs are really tour guides? My foreign friends were trapped in their cave connection tour guided by these SAGGAs. they were rescued by the real Sagada Guides the SEGAs.

Mr./Ms. anonymous...i hope i can answer your question, even if indirectly...these SAGGAs may indeed be guides but to call themselves "genuine" is unfair and inaccurate. The ORIGINAL guides - thus may accurately be called GENUINE guides - in Sagada are the members of SEGA, which have been there serving tourists long before this SAGGA came about. I have been to Sagada a few times, visited Sumaguing cave several times, done the cave connection - Lumiang to Sumaguing, camp-out at Kiltepan, went to Bomod-ok and Bokkong falls, explored the underground river, hiked up Mt. Ampacao, enjoyed the sunset at Lake Danum, went rock-climbing in Echo Valley, and visited other places in Sagada. Always i was with SEGA guide/s and always, i found their "service" and company efficient, professional and commendable.

MR. anonymous number 1...
i say you got the wrong information.. YOU MUST BE SAYING THE OTHER WAY AROUND.. you should re confirm.. like names of my guides etc...

I am Gareth, member of SaGGAs.. I was the one who went for the rescue of a SEGA client because i was simply the nearest guy the guide called for help (distant wise).. im sure sega would have done that if i were in
that situation too.. were you talking about the 2 guys. 1 white and a pinoy, possibly be working in the states? we would have done the same if the other organization had some problems like that..

I believe this is not an issue.. we are community influenced people, we offer our hand to all people in need of help no matter who we belong to..

i would think again that you were influenced by SEGA ideas who still thinks of that thinking.. hehehehe (egbert, george, eddie,dangwa).. What you have typed to this comment section is like a relay of what they say every time we have a conversation..
well, I agree that what you said about the original is kinda true. but there is more to it than just original.(some of our members were mere guides before sega was created by the way)..
1. we are what we claim to be, guides and no others.
2. real, and true ones..

what makes us different is, we seek to improve what the other association is weak at.
1) is that we target a 100% guest satisfaction of our hometown sagada.. (stated in our motto) :D
we complete each and every tour, especially when inside the cave..

2) we do regular cleaning in tourist spots and the environment.
proofs are found in this blog..

3) we help tourists in every way we can.

i believe that this organizations existence created a better chances for tourists seeking a memorable and adventurous safe tour in Sagada..

mr. sakat,,
your tour to sagada with the Sega has turned to be great because you had the right person.. how about for the others?...
i don't want to put them down for that is not my thing..

please, this is not the right comment section for your comment.. We created this blog for information purposes and not for things like what you said...

if you have other questions, feel free to e-mail me

this blog is designed to help tourists that are hungry for questions and information about their visit, not to put down another organization...

i'm glad saggas is my friend.

Mr. Gareth, i think you got me wrong. I did not, and will not, mean to put your organization down, or any organization in Sagada for that matter. Sagada is too idyllic a place for me to do such a thing. I expect that you guys, the inhabitants of Sagada, would be even more disinclined to do so. That is why i wonder why you react this way.

As you yourself recognize, this is a place where tourists should get information. But then, why should you try to limit what a person like me has to say here? You even intimate that i am merely influenced by what the SEGAs are saying, as if i dont't have my personal and independent take of things? Don't you want a free flow of ideas?

Please understand that i may just be one of some people who do not wish to see your beautiful place marred by, perhaps an unhealthy and unneeded competition between two groups of guides. I earnestly hope that the SAGGA and SEGA would co-exist peacefully and complement each other.

One final point, by your group using the word "genuine", are you not in effect saying that the only other group, SEGA, are not "genuine" guides? You may not realize that but please understand that other people, especially tourists, might see it that way and thus will come about what we all do not want to happen - that these people should shake their heads and say, "ah, Sagada is now starting to become less idyllic. It seems that the human frailties of disdain for others, pride and insensibility has started to get to the Sagadans."

i Yield...........

good luck..........

i got your point.........

i hope you understand my situation too...

anyhow, peace about that,

sakat, this is not the right place for such topic. maybe you can make your own blog and discuss it there about it. that would save you time.

February 20, 2008 at 12:26 PM

Mr. Gareth, salamat po...i look forward to your future moves conforming to your sentiments right now...hope to see you soon in Sagada...

byahengpinoy, Mr. Gareth's latest blog answers your message to me...i guess you're the one who is out of line here...i can see that Gareth can think out of the box...what about you? Sagada is a place of freedom, now why should this blog/website about Sagada be an instrument in suppressing the freedom of expression? Hopefully you'll get what i mean...

February 20, 2008 at 5:43 PM

sakat, just blog it... if you can.

February 22, 2008 at 11:53 AM

sakat, ako pa ang out of line, eh kayo ni anonymous ang nagpost ng bagay na hindi naman related sa LAKE DANUM post. di naman ikaw ang tinatanong, UMEEPAL KA PA. this is not the right venue to discuss that so i've suggested that you should create your own website and blog about it. i think you don't get it, but reading gareth's reply, he was just being nice to you. READ BETWEEN THE LINES.

February 26, 2008 at 11:08 AM

Mr. byahe...i leave it to all those who will read this blog to make up their minds who indeed is out of line ...

Read b/w the lines? yes, mr. gareth was being nice, much like a true Sagadan, and i appreciated that...but wat about you, y are you like that? last time i checked ur not even a member of SAGGA...well, maybe ur like that because u have failed to fully appreciate the beauty and culture of Sagada....

pinoy ka nga ba or nagsasabi lang ng ganyan para magpa-cute?

Do you know the idea behind creating blogs?

Maybe all you want to read are nice things? Maybe you are not interested in fairness and truth, and constructive criticisms? Do u understand the meaning of sycophants? check it out with webster first, then if you are such a person i suggest that you stop blogging because i know that there's freedom of expression here...gets mo?

i have no quarrel with u...pero it seems yan ang gusto mo....e d payt!

i appreciate the lake danum’s post new year clean up drive! i checked this blog prior to my sagada visit and the only thing that came into my mind were.. this group has genuine initiative and they enjoy doing something great for their place and for the tourists and they must be true sagadans. i never comment that time because i wanted to prove it personally (it was proven thru lester, anyway)! i was there at lake danum last february 9. it was indeed beautiful! the beauty of the lake showed more than the effort and the time of sagadans shared unconditionally. i would like also to express how i appreciate sagada and its people. lester, maraming salamat! you made my sagada experience one of its kind… worth remembering as only a genuine guide can do! i want to end this comment with a simple line…. in sagada, everything is cool except the people… they are warm!
